Drum Brake Repair Glasgow

Got an older car making weird noises when you brake? That grinding or scraping sound from the back wheels? Yeah, that’s probably your drum brakes telling you they need some attention.

We’re Motorono, just off Victoria Road in G41. Been fixing drum brakes for Glasgow folk for years now. If you’re driving around Shawlands, Govanhill, or anywhere on the Southside and your car’s acting up, pop round and we’ll take a look.

Most drum brake jobs we can sort the same day. Nobody wants to be stuck without their motor when you’ve got work in the morning and kids to ferry about. Free brake check too – no point charging you just to tell you what’s wrong.

What Is Drum Brake Repair and Why Does It Matter?

Right, drum brakes work differently from the disc brakes you’ve got up front. Inside each rear wheel there’s a metal drum. When you hit the brakes, two curved shoes push out against the inside of that drum to slow you down.

Problem is, those shoes wear down over time. The drum gets scratched up. Sometimes the little cylinder that pushes the shoes out starts leaking brake fluid everywhere.

Drum brake repair means swapping out the worn bits – shoes, cylinders, sometimes the whole drum if it’s too far gone. Your handbrake uses the same system, so if that’s not holding the car on hills, it’s probably drum brake related.

MOT testers love failing cars on rear brakes because loads of people forget about them. Out of sight, out of mind and all that.

Common Signs of Drum Brake Issues

Here’s what to watch for:

Your car’s making noise from the back when you brake – squealing, grinding, proper horrible sounds. Braking feels weak or the car’s pulling to one side. Handbrake’s useless – won’t hold on any sort of slope.

Sometimes the brake pedal feels spongy or goes further down than usual. Or you’ve just had your MOT and they’ve flagged up rear brake issues.

Burning smell from the back wheels after you’ve been braking hard is another giveaway.

What's Included in Our Drum Brake Repair Service

We’ll whip the rear wheels off and have a proper look at what’s going on. Check the drums, shoes, all the springs and bits that hold it together.

If the shoes are worn (they usually are), we’ll fit new ones. Leaking wheel cylinder? We’ll sort that too. Drum all scored up? We can machine it smooth again or fit a replacement if needed.

Always test everything properly before you drive off. Handbrake, pedal feel, make sure it’s all working as it should.

We work on everything – little Corsas, big Transit vans, classic cars with drum brakes all round. Same attention to detail whatever you’re driving.

Why Motorono Is Glasgow's Go-To for Drum Brake Repairs

We’re local lads. Been here for years, know the area, know the cars people drive round here. No fancy showroom or anything – just honest work at fair prices.

Most jobs we can do same day. Won’t try and sell you stuff you don’t need. Free recheck if you fail your MOT on brakes – get it sorted and come back.

Folk from all over the Southside bring their cars here. Word gets around when you do right by people.

Local Insight – Glasgow Roads & Drum Brake Wear

Glasgow’s murder on drum brakes, especially if you’re doing lots of short trips. All that stop-start traffic on Cathcart Road and Victoria Road. Sitting in queues then having to brake hard when someone cuts you up.

Cars from Govanhill and round Govan way – all those steep streets don’t help either. Handbrake’s working overtime and drum brakes take a proper battering.

Wet weather doesn’t help. Water gets in the drums, causes corrosion. Before you know it, your MOT’s due and you’re looking at a failure.
